In a quiet village nestled in Karditsa, Greece, a brave little dog named Souzi was quietly fighting for her life—and the lives of her newborn puppies.
Souzi, a sweet Greek Kokkoni mix, had lived her days as a stray, relying on the kindness of a few locals who left out food and water. Sadly, none took the step to spay her, and the inevitable happened—she gave birth to four tiny puppies on a cold concrete yard floor.
Just three days after giving birth, tragedy struck. Souzi was hit by a car, leaving her back leg severely injured. She was in pain, struggling to care for her fragile newborns, but her motherly instincts kept her going.
That’s when the incredible volunteers from The Diasozo Animal Rescue Team of Karditsa stepped in.
Though small in size, this rescue group has a giant heart. They’re on a mission to rescue, heal, and rehome abandoned animals across Greece. And on that day, Souzi and her babies became their top priority.
Even though it was a quiet Sunday evening, kind-hearted vet Rania opened her clinic to give Souzi the immediate pain relief she needed. She gently examined her, provided food and water, and made sure Souzi could safely continue nursing her pups.
By morning, the full extent of Souzi’s injuries became clear—her back leg was broken in two places, and the surrounding skin was badly damaged. But there was good news too: despite her pain, Souzi was still able to care for her babies, who nestled close to her side, never wandering far.
Souzi and her little family would now be staying at the clinic for care, safety, and comfort.
It’s hard to imagine a dog this sweet, this beautiful, living as a stray. In another country, Souzi would have been adopted in a heartbeat. But in many parts of the world, dogs like her go unnoticed—until kind souls like those at Diasozo step in.
Souzi’s story reminds us of the quiet strength of mother animals, the power of compassion, and the critical importance of spaying and neutering to prevent suffering.
Thanks to the tireless work of The Diasozo Animal Rescue Team and the gentle care of vet Rania, this little family now has hope—and a future.
