When everything familiar was taken from her, one small thing kept her grounded — her teddy bear.
Luna, a gentle-hearted rescue dog, had just been surrendered to San Antonio Animal Care Services. Surrounded by strange smells and unfamiliar faces, Luna clung to the only piece of her old life she had left — a soft, well-loved teddy bear from her previous home.
The sight of the sweet pup curled up with her bear broke hearts. No matter what was happening around her, Luna refused to part with her stuffed companion. It was more than a toy — it was her comfort, her memory, her anchor.
“That bear smelled like home,” said Lisa Norwood, public relations manager at San Antonio Animal Care Services. “It was familiar. In all the confusion, it reminded Luna of the life she’d known.”
Though Luna was clearly overwhelmed by her new surroundings, the staff quickly saw glimpses of her true personality. She was playful, spirited, and so full of love — even while adjusting to the shock of change.
“She was still every bit a puppy — curious and energetic,” Norwood said. “But sometimes, the stress of it all would weigh on her. That teddy was her safe place.”
Fortunately, Luna’s story was far from over. She and her teddy were soon transferred to Vermont English Bulldog Rescue, where her journey toward healing and a forever home could continue.
Now, Luna waits — not just for a house, but for a family who will love her for who she is: sweet, strong, and a little tender-hearted. A family who will understand the simple magic of a stuffed bear in the paws of a dog who’s survived loss.
“What Luna truly needs,” Norwood shared, “is a patient, loving family who will give her the lifelong home she deserves.”
