When a group of rescued dogs arrived at The Little Guild in West Cornwall, Connecticut, one gentle pup immediately stood out — her name was Jodi.
Jodi came all the way from the overcrowded Habersham County Animal Shelter in Georgia. And even before she stepped paw into her new shelter, her story had already touched hearts.
As soon as the staff at The Little Guild heard about her, they knew she was special. The love for her ran deep — so deep, in fact, that volunteers in Georgia were moved to tears when they found out she’d be leaving.
“Jodi meant the world to the team down there,” shared Kelsey Turick, a caregiver at The Little Guild. “They cried when they learned we were taking her in to help her find a forever family.”
Jodi had spent seven years with the same family before being surrendered to the shelter. It’s hard to imagine how heartbreaking that must have been.
When she first arrived in Connecticut, she was confused, frightened, and visibly heartbroken. She didn’t understand where her family had gone — she only wanted to go back home.
“She was terrified,” Turick recalled. “You could see in her eyes how lost she felt.” But with time, patience, and a whole lot of love, Jodi began to blossom.
Day by day, she started trusting her new caretakers. Her warm, loving personality emerged like sunshine after a storm. She made new friends — both human and furry — and reminded everyone around her just how resilient and beautiful a dog’s spirit can be.
“Jodi has such a joyful personality,” Turick said with a smile. “She loves people, she’s playful and energetic, but also knows how to snuggle under a blanket for a cozy nap. She may be a senior, but she’s got so much love and energy left to give.”
What makes Jodi’s story even more touching is her incredible adaptability. She gets along with kids, other dogs, and even cats. All she truly wants is to be surrounded by love again — to belong.
Although several families have shown interest, Jodi is still waiting for that one perfect match — the forever home where she’ll be cherished every single day. Everyone who knows her, from Georgia to Connecticut, is rooting for her. Her journey has been long, but her heart remains wide open.
Somewhere out there, Jodi’s true family is waiting. And when they finally find her, it’ll be a reunion written in the stars.
